Are you having fun?

When we think of work, fun is not usually the first word that comes to mind.
That’s a sad story, because work is where we spend most of our lives. If we’re not having some fun during work, then the amount of fun in our overall lives is probably low.

Of course, we have goals to achieve, people to talk to, conflicts to resolve and expectations to meet.
These are serious things – not fun.

But can’t we have fun even in the challenges of the day-to-day grind?

I say yes. And I think we not only can, but we actually need to have more fun.

When we’re enjoying ourselves we are more productive. Fun people are lively, energetic and have this freedom that doesn’t fear failure.

When we are having fun, we create a positive environment around ourselves which then creates a better energy and better performance all around.

It’s so easy to get caught in the trap of thinking that your small little world is the most important thing in the universe. It’s not. We make things too serious.

Have some fun with it.
But you can’t sit there and think really hard and create fun out of thin air. That’s impossible.
Ready…have fun.

Doesn’t work. Monday morning rolls around and after three cups of coffee doesn’t get me going, fun pretty much goes out the window.

So how can we have more fun? Where can it come from?

Like I said, your problems and challenges are really not that big of a deal. When you’re in them every day they seem huge, but if you take a moment to step back and see the big picture, you realize it’s going to be OK.

Think back at past events in your life. Think about things that you used to get stressed about.
I remember before getting married that our engagement and wedding planning was horrifyingly stressful. It was frustrating and hard, and I remember thinking, let’s just get this over with!
But now that I look back I realize – what was the big deal? What was I afraid of and stressed about?
And we can do that with most frustrations in our life. With time and perspective we can take a fresher look and realize, it’s not that big of a deal.

So what that means: Have fun with it!

When you’re stressed or anxious, take a step back, realize it’s not that big of a deal and go for it. Have some fun.

Gratitude

The second way to make sure we have perspective and more fun is to realize how much we have to be thankful for.

Take a survey of your life and realize how much you have going right, and all the sudden you’ll realize a few things going wrong is not the end of the world.

And when you are thankful and appreciative for who you are and what you have, this gives you the freedom and peace to go out and have more fun.

Stop being so worried and anxious. You have a lot going for you.

Have some fun!
